Spanish Indefinite Articles: un, una, unos, unas
Short answer
Un goes with masculine nouns, una with feminine; unos and unas mean some or a few. Spanish drops them before an unmodified profession: soy profesor, but soy un profesor excelente.

Omit the article with professions after ser, unless an adjective follows:
- Soy profesor. (no article)
- Soy un profesor excelente.
