Grammar rules

Present Perfect vs. Past Simple

B2#tempos verbais#verbos

TempoUsoExemplo
Present Perfectação ligada ao presente, tempo não definidoI have lost my keys. (e ainda estão perdidas)
Past Simpleação terminada, tempo definidoI lost my keys yesterday.
  • Use o Past Simple com marcadores de tempo terminado: yesterday, in 2010, last week, ago.
  • Use o Present Perfect com: just, already, yet, ever, never, since, for.

Conditionals (1st, 2nd, 3rd)

B2#condicionais#gramática

As condicionais expressam diferentes graus de probabilidade.

  • 1ª (real/futuro): If it rains, I will stay home. → situação provável.
  • 2ª (hipotética/presente): If I had more time, I would travel. → improvável ou imaginário.
  • 3ª (passado irreal): If I had studied, I would have passed.

Discurso diretoDiscurso indireto
"I am tired."He said he was tired.
"I will call."She said she would call.
"I saw it."He said he had seen it.
  • Mudam também pronomes e expressões de tempo: now → then, today → that day, tomorrow → the next day.
  • Após say não use objeto direto; após tell sim: He told me that...

The Passive Voice

Estrutura: to be (no tempo certo) + past participle.

  • They build houses.Houses are built.
  • Someone stole my bike.My bike was stolen.

Use a passiva quando:

  • o agente é desconhecido ou óbvio;

O agente, se necessário, vem com by: The book was written by Orwell.

Used to / Be used to / Get used to

B2#expressões#verbos

Três estruturas parecidas, mas com sentidos distintos.

  • used to + infinitivo = hábito passado que já não existe: I used to smoke. (já não fumo)
  • be used to + -ing/substantivo = estar acostumado: I am used to working late.
  • get used to + -ing/substantivo = acostumar-se (processo): I am getting used to the cold.

Atenção: em be/get used to, to é uma preposição, por isso vem seguida de -ing, não de infinitivo.
