Grammar rules

Present Simple di to be (am / is / are)

A1#verbi#to be#presente

Il verbo to be (essere) cambia secondo il soggetto:

SoggettoForma
Iam
you / we / theyare
he / she / itis

Forma breve: I'm, you're, he's, she's, we're, they're.

Negativo: I am not, he is not (isn't), they are not (aren't).

Domanda: si mette il verbo prima del soggetto: Are you Italian? Is she happy?

Gli articoli a / an / the

A1#articoli#nomi
  • a / an = un, uno, una (indeterminativo, solo singolare).
    • a prima di consonante: a book, a dog.
    • an prima di suono vocalico: an apple, an hour.
  • the = il, la, i, le (determinativo, una cosa specifica): the sun, the house.

Attenzione: in inglese non si usa l'articolo davanti ai nomi al plurale generici: I like dogs (Mi piacciono i cani).

Il plurale dei nomi

A1#nomi#plurale

Di solito si aggiunge -s:

  • cat → cats, book → books

Si aggiunge -es dopo -s, -ss, -sh, -ch, -x:

  • bus → buses, box → boxes, watch → watches

Alcuni plurali sono irregolari:

  • man → men, woman → women, child → children, foot → feet

Present Simple: he / she / it + -s

A1#verbi#presente

Al Present Simple la terza persona singolare (he, she, it) prende una -s finale:

  • I work → he works
  • you play → she plays

Negativo e domanda usano do / does + verbo base:

  • I don't like coffee.
  • She doesn't like coffee.
  • Do you speak English?
  • Does he live here?

Nota: dopo does il verbo torna alla forma base (senza -s).
